When it comes to serving healthy school lunches, San Diego’s are the healthiest in the nation, second only to Pinellas County Schools in Florida.
This honor for school lunches comes directly from an annual report issued by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. The San Diego Unified School District earned an A- for its healthy lunch offerings, said officials with the SDUSD. Their score? 93 percent.
This is the second year the district has earned second place honors for offering students fresh and healthful low-fat meals which also include two vegetarian meals twice a week.
School districts and how they educate and care for our kids can strongly influence the desirability of certain San Diego homes and neighborhoods. And healthy school lunches can make all the difference in the world for kids whose diets may be lacking in good nutrition. Combine a healthy diet with our lovely San Diego climate that allows for outdoor activity year round and you have a perfect combination for robust health and a positive outlook on life.
And isn’t that what we want for all kids?
