old carlsbadThough we deal day in and day out with Carlsbad real estate, we also spend much time exploring the different neighborhoods and communities within this coastal city. Here, we explore the charms of Olde or Old Carlsbad, located within the 92008 zip code.

To begin with, is it Olde or Old Carlsbad, CA? It’s probably a matter of style or taste. Locals can’t decide either!

Old Carlsbad is coastal ground zero, where Carlsbad had its start in the late 1800’s. Named after the Bohemian town of Karlsbad (because of healing alkaline water similarities–and which is still available today!), Carlsbad started off as an agricultural community where avocados, citrus fruits and olive trees flourished. Today, Old Carlsbad is broadly defined by its 92008 zip code and the many homes that were built before Carlsbad’s incorporation in the 1950’s. Some of Carlsbad’s most expensive real estate sits on its beaches, while other prime properties sit on nearby hillsides with stunning views of the ocean.

Old Carlsbad has a distinct beachy ambience that is relaxed, casually dressed and where much of life is spent outdoors–year round. This San Diego climate chart below  may help explain.

Central to Old Carlsbad is Carlsbad Village. which ranges several blocks along Carlsbad Blvd and which includes Carlsbad Village Drive, Grand Ave, State Street, Roosevelt Street, and various other cross streets. Here you can troll along tree-lined streets as you pass boutiques, antique shops, numerous restaurants and specialty stores. And if you are out and about on either Wednesday (1-5) or Sunday (9-1), you might want to visit the downtown Carlsbad Farmer’s Market held along Roosevelt Avenue.

Other notable downtown attractions might include:
