Where is San Diego Luxury real Estate? You might be surprised!

San Diego Luxury real estate

There is a healthy selection of luxury homes for sale in San Diego, and the choices of setting are truly remarkable.

San Diego County offers the luxury home shopper everything from oceanfront properties, to sprawling Rancho Santa Fe equestrian estates, to downtown penthouses to Pauma Valley golf estates with a community airport. Most of San Diego’s luxury homes are in settings that reflect and support lifestyle choices.

Coronado offers both an affluent village setting, with lovely homes and condos, and luxury high rise buildings— along with the Coronado Cays, where there are luxury homes with their own boat docks.

Downtown San Diego offers a few luxurious period homes along with plush penthouses overlooking both the San Diego Harbor along with the mountains surrounding San Diego. Small downtown communities to consider might include Mission Hills, Banker’s Hill, Little Italy and the area around Balboa Park.

Point Loma is an historic area that is close to both the San Diego Airport and downtown San Diego. There are some lovely and luxurious ocean view properties that occasionally come onto the market here.

La Jolla is known for the number and quality of luxury homes it offers. Starter homes begin at about $1 million here, and there are many priced in the eight figures as well. The ocean views from the hills surrounding La Jolla are heart-stopping.

Del Mar is home to some of the most expensive oceanfront property in the world (one recently sold at $35 million). The beach in Del Mar is exquisite, and its 4900+ residents also enjoy a lifestyle that includes a quaint and upscale village, the famed Del Mar Race Track, easy access to both freeway and train, and panoramic ocean views from its hillsides.

Solana Beach is adjacent to Del Mar and is known for its scenic bluffs. The homes, townhomes and condos situated on these oceanfront bluffs command spectacular ocean views. Prices for homes and condos in Solana Beach start at around $800,000.

Rancho Santa Fe is frequently listed as the wealthiest community in the country, and there is a reason so many wealthy people choose to live here. Rancho Santa Fe is just east of Del Mar, and benefits from its ocean breezes. Most all of the homes are located on at least one private acre, and many are expansive and luxurious gated estates with pools, tennis courts, guest houses and equestrian facilities. Central Rancho Santa Fe includes the clearly defined Covenant area, which includes membership in the Rancho Santa Fe Golf Club. Areas outside the Covenant include the gated communities in Fairbanks Ranch, gated Cielo, the golf community of Morgan Run, the Haciendas, and the Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe.

Encinitas offers a broad range of luxury homes ranging from oceanfront estates and condos, to golf homes around Encinitas Ranch to equestrian estates in rural Olivenhain. Distinct communities in Encinitas would include quaint Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Old Encinitas, the quintessential beach community of Leucadia, the golf community of Encinitas Ranch and the upscale and rural area of Olivenhain.

Carlsbad offers very limited (when available) choices in beach front property and Carlsbad luxury home buyers keep a close watch on the small Terramar beach community that offers relatively quiet privacy and its own gated beach access. In South Carlsbad are the highly regarded communities of Aviara and La Costa. Here one finds luxury golf and ocean view homes that are conveniently situated around the Aviara Four Seasons Resort and Golf Course–along with the adjacent and famed La Costa Resort and Spa with its two championship golf courses. Fortunate residents of these communities enjoy close proximity to the beaches, freeways and the Coaster train station.

Downtown Oceanside has some new mid-high rise luxury condos under construction, with first occupancy slated to occur in Fall, 2007. The premier enclave of luxury homes in Oceanside would be the legendary gated beachfront community of St. Malo, which sits at the far southwest end of Oceanside.

In short, San Diego luxury real estate might be found in almost any community–and would depend upon your compatibility that upscale neighborhood!
