Hauntings at the Hotel del Coronado

hauntingsReports of hauntings at the Hotel del Coronado have circulated for years.

The most famous ghost  haunting is a young woman who reportedly committed suicide near the turn of the last century. I don’t recall exactly where she stayed that fateful night at the Hotel del Coronado, but I do recall a desk clerk giving me the room number (Room 3227?) during a stay there a few years ago.

Unable to resist the temptation during that stay, I went by that small interior room in the hotel (with windows that opened into the hallway), but could see nothing. The clerk said that many psychics and ghost hunters reserve the room–either out of curiosity, or the possible opportunity for a Coronado seance.

I am not aware of any threatening gestures made by the ghost or spirit that supposedly roams the halls and grounds of the Hotel del Coronado, but would be very interested in hearing from anyone who has encountered any ghosts or spirits at this legendary San Diego hotel–or who have their own Hotel del Coronado stories.

  1. My mother, sister, best friend and I were staying in the maids quarters (haunted room #3502). Our friend had just stepped out to go for a walk in the early AM and the rest of us were just getting up to get ready to check out and head to the Queen Mary for our last night in San Diego. We were in the restroom talking and heard a noise thinking it was our friend returning and when we looked out into the room no one was there…but our luggage and shoes were stacked up against the wall all on top of eachother like a pyramid. It scared us and we went down to the desk to tell them what had happened and they told us a few stories about occurances in that room. Well, to say the least, we thanked the spirit for helping us pack up and we checked out. Needless to say…we are going back to stay in the same room for 3 days 5/22/08-5/25/08. We can’t wait to see what happens this time.

  2. I have stayed in Room 3327 4 times and had exp.’s with communicating with the K-2 meter many many times. I have had humming in my left ear twice. The speaker phone going off loudly and at request. The toilet paper raising as if to hand it to me. The indentation on the bed as if someone was sitting there. I have also stayed in room 3519 where sounds came from the closet quite often and was touched at 3:08 in the morning on the bottom of my foot as if to try and tickle me. Never have I been afraid. I will continue to go back and stay in the same rooms as well as others. The last time I was there, someone passed away 2 doors down…. Spirits are everywhere. I even managed to get orbs in a few pictures.

  3. I stayed on the 5th floor August 2010. Slept with the window open and approx 2am to 4:30am experienced lights off and on in my bathroom. Id turn them off.. they would go back on.

    Then the footsteps started.. a little girl perhaps and then heavy steps.. all running then walking then again. Lastly was the large stricking noise from the closet that went on for a long time .. door was open and I could see in but no one there.

    I phoned the front desk and they said the room next door had called as well with in minutes of my call that thier phone kept ringing but no one was there when they picked up.

    When I asked in the morning who was in the room above me last night as they were making so much noise and steps all night .. I was told .. there was no room above me.
