Recipe for Green Lawns in San Diego

Green lawns in San Diego–I’m always looking for green solutions to everyday tasks, and this one caught my eye–and just might be perfect for San Diego real estate and green lawns.

It’s always fun to find extraordinary uses for everyday products we have lying around the house.

Paul Michael at Wise Bread swears that this lawn tonic recipe will do wonders for grassy yards, especially since it is the secret recipe of former Colorado golf groundskeeper, Tim Heffron. It is also a recipe shared each year on his local Colorado station. Paul’s article offers much more detailed explanation of how each ingredient works, but we’ll provide his secret recipe here:

Snatch from your cupboards and refrigerator:

One full can of regular soda (any flavor, but no diet)
One full can of beer (no light beer; craft beer not necessary)
1/2 Cup of liquid dishwashing soap (do NOT use anti-bacterial dishwashing liquid)
1/2 Cup of household ammonia
1/2 Cup of mouthwash (any brand)

What to do?

Pour into hose-end sprayer and spray over grass. In the heat of summer, apply every three weeks.

Should you have any lefover or expired liquid vitamins (human variety), you might consider adding a dash to the mix. This is my own suggestion and one I use for house and potted plants–and recommend to our San Diego real estate clients for their own lawns.

Bon Appetit!
