Cardiff-by-the-Sea, or simply Cardiff to locals, is a highly-desired beach community located south of Encinitas and San Elijo Lagoon, just north of Solana Beach, and sits on a hillside that faces the ocean and is graced with colorful sunsets almost every day of the week.
Though part of Encinitas, Cardiff has its own zip code of 92007 and has a loyal population just under 12,000. Flowers and gardens abound here, so it should come as no surprise that Cardiff was initially established as a farming community, and home development started in 1911 when J. Frank Cullen initiated development of new homes in the area. Cullen’s wife originally hailed from Cardiff, Wales and convinced her husband to name the community “Cardiff” with streets bearing names such as Birmingham, Oxford, Chesterfield, and Manchester–to name just a few.
Later, the Composer District was established with streets such a Mozart, Liszt, Haydn, and other composer notables. All homes in this quaint community are in high demand. People love the walkable streets, glorious ocean views, the Seaside Market with its famous “Cardiff Crack” seasoned roasts, the yoga studios and easy beach ambience not overrun with tourists.
