Dining Thrill at Marine Room

Marine RoomThe Marine Room restaurant in La Jolla is famous for its stunning ocean views and the waves that often pound its windows during high tide.

The chef at the Marine Room checks tide charts well in advance to plan the beautiful High tide Breakfasts with a current price of $38 and which runs from 7 am to 11 am and includes a gourmet 3-course breakfast. Reservations are necessary.

We had a Tides Breakfast at the Marine Room February 8 and had the chance to learn about the sparkling clear windows that appear to be floating above the water. It seems that around 20 years ago, the former windows were blown out by a storm and they were replaced with glass that is 2 to 3 inches thick–which is amazing given their pure clarity. The culinary offerings, by the way, were outstanding (especially the smoked salmon).

The Marine Room also offers Happy Hour specials from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday through Friday, and dinner with seatings that begin at 5:30 p.m. Lobster Night, held on Sunday and Monday evenings, is a special night for lobster lovers. The 3-course dinner offers luscious lobster dishes as appetizer and main course, with a special chef creation for dessert. The current cost is $50 per person, and $75 with wine pairings.

The more adventurous diners at the Marine Room in La Jolla, though, will plan their dining experience to coincide with epic high tides, which might look like this:
