Property values in Del Mar just may take a jump with the closing of Hollywood Park at the end of 2013–and result in schedules for Del Mar Races to expand. The California Horse Racing Board has approved additional Del Mar fall racing dates of November 5 through December 5 in 2014, and October 28 through December 6 in 2015.
Del Mar Race rentals are already in high demand through the summer race season, which will now be expanded into the slower fall months.
We manage vacation rentals in La Costa and the Del Mar area–and also list and sell them to investors. This expansion of the race season should bring extra value to those vacation rentals for one of the most dormant seasons. This will leave much of the winter season open for Canadian and other snowbirds as well as late spring and early summer season for those craving Del Mar beaches and San Diego’s glorious weather.
The 2015 dates for the Del Mar Race Track are still contingent upon Del Mar snagging the Breeder’s Cup–versus San Anita, which would cause Del Mar to start one week later.
The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club expects attendance at the track to average 18,000 visitors per day, making it second in the country only to Saratoga. It will also rank first in all California–and second only to Saratoga with its average of $645,000 per day in purses.
All in all, this is a big win for Del Mar and a potential bump for owners of vacation rental properties in Del Mar and Solana Beach.
