Bio
Brilliant is the first word that comes to mind when describing the life, achievements and personality of Dione Lamm who is a seasoned Realtor and Certified International Specialist (CIPS) with San Diego Previews Real Estate. And when you get a glimpse into her background, the description makes a world of sense–and why she is destined to be a shining star in international real estate.
Dione was literally born on Broadway to parents who were performing nightly on stage. Just beyond stage lights, infant Dione slept in an open suitcase behind the scenes and traveled with shows as they moved from one city to the next. Even as a baby, this curly red-headed charmer was a trouper.
Perhaps these early travels set the travel lust and love of languages in motion. Always a quick learner and excellent student, Dione at the age of 16 won the prestigious Bank of America Foreign Language Award and spent that summer living and traveling with a German family.
After high school graduation at Grant High School in Sherman Oaks, Dione attended Occidental College in Los Angeles where she majored in International Relations and spent her junior year studying in the South of France. There, she met lifelong friends–as well as her future husband, Uvito Perrera, who hailed from Madrid.
A love of Europe (and a love in Europe) pulled Dione back after she graduated with honors from Occidental. She would end up living in Europe for over 26 years, first in her husband’s hometown of Madrid, Spain for nearly 10 years–and then to Brussels, Belgium for another 17 years, where Uvito served as Director for the Environment at the European Commission. In both locations, Dione’s career as a simultaneous translator flourished.
Fluent in English, Spanish and French, she worked with a number of international organizations that served business CEO’s, politicians, presidents, Nobel Prize winners–as well as show business people and entrepreneurs from all fields. It was a career that allowed Dione to travel far and wide for both business and pleasure–and to enjoy their country home, horses and her gifts as a flamenco dancer.
A longing for sunshine, balmy weather, casual lifestyle and roots in Southern California lured Dione, Uvito, their two sons and dogs to coastal North San Diego County in 2004–at a time when the San Diego real estate market was red hot. Her introduction as a buyer to the local home market might have occurred under better timing, but it created a new professional interest that would evolve over time. In the early years, though, Dione divided her time between being an advocate for their developmentally disabled teenaged son, supporting their oldest son at UC Santa Barbara–and gaining certification from the Interior Design Institute, which would eventually allow her to aid and advise clients on design choices.
These days, the stars are aligned for Dione. Uvito is engaged with environmental issues and solutions, their older son graduated from UCSB and is now in Spain with a professional soccer contract, their younger son has adjusted to his new home and Dione as a Realtor is at work introducing international buyers to the San Diego lifestyle. So many appreciate that Dione is fluent not only in Spanish and French, but also has a working knowledge of Dutch and Italian–and has a deep understanding of the cultures surrounding these languages.
In addition to her real estate profession, Dione gives back to the community by volunteering one day per week to help support a non-public school occupational site that helps the autistic population.
